February 22nd - March 5th
Members Annual Exhibition

This year's Cork Arts Society, Members Annual Exhibition opens at the Lavit Gallery on Tuesday February 22nd and runs until March 5th.

Forty three artists will exhibit a total of sixty three pieces, making this a large and exciting show full of variety.   Place is important in many of the works with recognisable areas such as Achill, Crosshaven, Conna, Fermoy, Glanmire, Killarney, Schull, Shandon, and the River Lee and it's bridges being translated into works of art.   Contrasting with these sea and landscapes are colourful abstracts, portraits from the human and animal worlds, domestic still lives and modern takes on fairy tales / nursery rhymes with Brian Cowen even featuring in one! Painting, print, drawing, photography, ceramics, batik and mixed media works will all be on view.

The Cork Arts Society was founded in 1963 by a group of artists with the intention of providing support and exhibition opportunities in Cork. This year approximately 120 pieces were submitted by members of the Cork Arts Society for selection for this show with approximately half of the submitted works being chosen. The selection is made by an external panel of three selectors, and this panel changes each year. Artists exhibiting in this year's show include Anne Bologna, Carmel Creaner, Avril Daly, David Jenkins, Josef & Susan Keys, Susanne Leutenegger, June Mathews, Eva O'Connell, Margaret O' Sullivan, Dee Pieters, Charlo Quain, Lesley Stothers, Brigid Shelly, Sabine Weissbach, Linda Whelan and Paul White to name but a few.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday 22nd February at 8.00pm by Ken McCarthy, Chairman of The Lavit Gallery and Cork Arts Society.
