Dorothy O' Riordan

Dorothy O'Riordan was born in Cork and grew up in Bishopstown. She studied Fine Art at The Crawford College of Art and Design. She completed her studies with a Higher Diploma in Fine Art and P.T.A., and also achieved a diploma with distinction from The Regent Academy London. After graduating in the early 1990's, Dorothy was based in Dublin and worked in the field of Art and Design both in Dublin and abroad.

On returning to Cork Dorothy continued to paint and now paints full-time. Her work is predominately based on light, with an emphasis on light and shadow. Her inspiration includes The Impressionists, The Fauves for their use of vivid colour, and American artist Edward Hopper. Her subject is primarily light and she captures the play of light on the buildings and landscapes in Cork. By eliminating black from her entire palette combined with painterly brush strokes Dorothy captures the essence of light and freshness in her work.
